Social media trends: Top 6 predictions for 2023

Today there are approximately 4.89 billion social media users around the world. That's up from 2.5 billion users in 2017. In the coming years, social media use is projected to increase even more and we’ve taken a look at the predictions for social media for 2023.   

  1. Authentic & Transparency: Increasingly customers are demanding that their brands are authentic and transparent and expect them to take a stand on important issues. This year brands are expected to work harder to base their social media image around high social standards.
  2. The metaverse: Customers will get more accustomed to (aspects of) the metaverse in 2023. This will include Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Avatars and NFTs.
  3. Multi-sensory social media: Brands and social media platforms will bring more engaging experiences to users with the integration of multiple formats into the same post and/or channel.
  4. Super apps: Several social media platforms appear to be working towards creating all-encompassing, “super” apps, by extending their range of services and features.
  5. Social media for customer service: More businesses will be incorporating a customer service element into their social media strategies in 2023.
  6. Short-form videos: Short-form videos are expected to maintain or even grow their power in 2023, especially on the social media platform TikTok.
