How to optimise your SEO content?

SEO content is online content designed to rank in search engines such as Google and Bing. Content written for SEO is usually optimised around specific keywords and it’s important that when creating content it’s engaging, interesting and informative. After all content is KING and as marketing software provider HubSpot reports that businesses that regularly publish blog posts get 350% more traffic than those that don’t publish content on a regular basis it’s never been more important to create great content and to ensure that it's optimised.

If you’re looking for inspiration for your content try the following steps to create killer copy:

  • Competition: Check out your competitors! See what they are blogging about; check out their videos and infographics. What can you do to improve on them? How can you make your content more engaging?
  • Reddit: Check out www.reddit.com a network of communities based on their interests. Search for topics that tend to resurface regularly. These can be fantastic topics to cover in a blog post or video.
  • Personas: Personas can help flesh out what type of content your target customer searches for online when they’re not searching for your product or service.
  • Google Suggest: An extremely useful tool to find long tail keywords, you can see keywords that people are searching for right now and utilise these within your copy.
  • Uber Suggest: This free keyword research tool helps you to come up with new keyword ideas and also lets you know how many people search for that keyword in Google every month.
  • Comprehensive Content: Longer content helps to give google more information about the topic of that webpage. This makes them more confident that your page is a relevant result for that keyword.
  • Optimise for Users: This is important if you want to make your content easy to consume. If your content isn’t easy to read and understand it won’t rank well as google now uses User Experience Signals to determine which results deserve to rank #1 in the SERPS. Therefore, if people love your content it’s going to get a boost.
  • Short content: Make the first couple of sentences really short! Research has shown that people prefer to read short sentences. In addition add lots of multimedia to your content such as video, interactive media, infographics, games and diagrams. When you have quality media in your content you will satisfy a larger amount of website visitors.
  • Optimise your content: Keyword prominence is important as the higher up the page a keyword first appears the more google considers that page about the keyword.
  • Share on social media: Ensure that you are utilising the correct social media channels for your products and a call to action to get users back to your site.
