There are big predictions for social media usage in 2020 and we’ve uncovered our top tips that you need to keep an eye out for and adopt within your social media strategy:

50% of searches are likely to be done through voice recognition systems or graphics. There is a growing trend in people using google and amazon devices every day to ask questions and search and it is estimated that 50% of searches by 2020 will be done through voice recognition systems or graphics.

People are getting used to talking to Google Home and Amazon devices every morning, whilst website layouts have been optimised in ways that allow image searching in just seconds. With the rise of social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat, visual-based content has massively increased in usage since smartphones now have access to cameras, photos, and videos.

More social videos

It is estimated that 56% of users of social media use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Snapchat to watch and engage with brands’ videos each month. 1 in 3 social media users will watch or interact with videos made by brands and this is set to continue and rise rapidly.

VR and AR adoption

This year we’ll see more practical applications of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) changing the game of our social media networks. Snapchat Geofilters is a great example of where you can see and view locationspecific videos.

Furthermore, big brands such as Amazon, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, Bitmoji, and WeChat are exploring ways to implement AR in marketing strategies with a goal to push sales and great advertising.

The art of traditional conversation has changed, many consumers of social media in particular younger generations are communicating through image and video snippets rather than typing or replying back a message on their phone.

Businesses can adapt to this growing trend by understanding the personal behaviour of the consumer and moving forward with different forms of social videos that grow a customer community whilst showcasing a balanced amount of broadcast content and product integration.

Influencer marketing

Influencer marketing continues to rise with 22% of young adults reporting that they have made a purchase after seeing an influencer recommend a product online. Personal connections coming from real human beings are seen as important when making product purchases, however, we may see the rise of the “influencer” coming from more “real” people rather than the celebrity endorsements as consumers start to feel that these can be trusted.

Local content

Local content will become bigger in 2020 with national brands localising their social media pages to give consumers the opportunity to communicate with their brand at a personal level.
